Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood had to make between 200 and 300 leather bomber jackets for AppleTV+’s World War II series “Masters of the Air.”
Despite having more than 80 credits to her name, Atwood had never done a WWII drama and was delighted to finally be tackling the era. She dove deep into researching the period, collecting photos of the young men on the military bases so she could create individual styles for the actors and their characters. She even got samples of the original uniforms.
Her biggest challenge, however, was recreating aviator jackets of the era. It took her six months to complete the task, which ended up becoming a global undertaking.
Leather specialist Gary Eastman provided Atwood with the material, but she needed period-specific zippers, which she had shipped in from Japan. The sheepskin for the shearling linings came from
Scotland and England.

“Masters of the Air” doesn’t fly as high as it does without Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann. No military unit rests on the shoulders of two people, and the Eighth Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group was no different in World War II. Historically known as the Bloody 100th for the tremendous losses it endured, the fearless flyers saw some of the worst action of the war and it did so thousands of feet above the front lines.
But as a piece of cinematic storytelling, the Apple TV+ series from “Band of Brothers” trio Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman needs the profound warmth of Boyle’s Lt. Harry Crosby and Mann’s Major Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal to, ironically, ground its darkest days.
At the top of the call sheet are Austin Butler and Callum Turner, as pilots Major Gale “Buck” Cleven and Major John “Bucky” Egan, respectively.

This look is a total knockout. It perfectly balances elegance with a touch of allure, making it the perfect choice for the event. I love the luxurious feel of the silk satin fabric.

Tom Hardy is most popularly known for committing to intense characters that are morally complex. The actor goes method in everything he does and dives deep into the skin of the character to embody them. Films like Bronson, Warrior, Locke, The Revenant, and The Dark Knight Rises display his brilliant transformative performances.

The latter had him star as Bane, whose towering physique and intimidating aura instill fear in the people of Gotham and even Batman. One might think that the actor is also intense in reality. However, Hardy is a total goofball and a sweetheart in real life and his Kids Interview with BBC1 proves it.

From keeping footprints out of frame to the VFX team having to create a whole technique for the hologram scenes, everything about Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" and its sequel required meticulous attention to detail and a willingness to innovate in order to bring Frank Herbert's 1965 story to life. One of the best examples of this is the Harkonnen arena battle from "Dune: Part Two," in which three Atreides soldiers face off against Austin Butler's vicious warrior Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.
Shot entirely in monochrome, this sequence stands out not only for its distinct visual style but for its intensity and the creeping sense of doom it evokes. As Feyd-Rautha, nephew of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård), takes on the captured Atreides soldiers, his unbridled glee at ending their lives and the roars of the Harkonnen crowd establish Butler's...

Though they're undeniably successful, large parts of Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies can come off a little bleak. Still, there's no denying the sheer coolness factor of the ornithopters. The aircraft used by House Atreides to traverse the desert landscapes of the planet Arrakis are one of the most memorable elements of the "Dune" aesthetic, combining the form of a dragonfly with elements of helicopter design and producing something so visually striking that Lego has since produced one of the coolest building brick vehicles ever with its ornithopter set.
Production designer Patrice Vermette began working on the ornithopter back in 2018 and drew from a multitude of inspirations, including insects and birds on the natural side of things and helicopters on the more technological side. Once the design had been nailed down, the production team actually built large parts of the 'thopters to allow the "Dune" actors to interact with the hardware.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Jennifer Lopez will be touring this summer after all. And while that’s certainly a crime against Pride Month if not humanity itself, it at least frees up some extra time–and money–to watch some movies. And while 2024 looks to be a rather tepid year for blockbusters, there are still plenty of Don’t-Miss Indies out there ready to crawl into your eyes and ears.

“So, I would like to act again. But the role would really need to be right,” Cyrus sad, “since it’s kind of hard for people to see past me and buy into a character. The character would either need to be an extension of myself, or someone — or something — with a personality that can conquer my own. I would need a character that is bigger than me.”

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two was the first big blockbuster of the year and led to a horde of new fans joining the fandom. The Timothée Chalamet starrer was based on Frank Herbert’s popular sci-fi novels and was the sequel of 2021’s Dune: Part One. The film also starred Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and more.
While the film’s release led to many ‘Lisan-al-Gaib’ memes, nothing from the film went as viral as the infamous Dune popcorn bucket. The sandworm-shaped bucket was an object of ridicule from fans as well as the stars themselves. Ryan Reynolds recently released the Deadpool and Wolverine popcorn bucket as a joke, to which Villeneuve has responded.

Capturing Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer on the Set of ‘The Bikeriders’ (Exclusive Photos)
Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders is a rousing look into motorcycle gangs, one of the most American of subcultures. The film takes place in the 1960s when the wild freedom of riding in packs of bikes along the open roads of the United States with one’s club transformed into the heavy violence and wild mayhem of a biker gang. Starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy, the long-awaited movie about an outlaw motorcycle gang in Chicago is set to open June 21, after its previous release date of Dec. 1 was pushed.
The Focus Features film is inspired by the work of photographer Danny Lyon, who first became noticed for his photos in the early 1960s documenting the Civil Rights movement. He followed and then joined the Chicago chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. From 1963 to 1967, he took thousands of photos, engaging club members and, just as importantly, their wives and girlfriends in interviews,...

He has worked with renowned actors such as Toni Collette, Florence Pugh, Joaquin Phoenix, Gabriel Byrne, and more.
Aster will be helming his next film Eddington which sees him reunite with Phoenix and also stars Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, and Austin Butler. Yellowstone star Luke Grimes, who also featured in the film mentioned the difference between the sets of Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western and Aster’s black comedy.

The story of Dave Bautista's Hollywood career is the story of him trying to prove he's not your average wrestler-turned-actor. To be fair, Bautista's best movies really do suggest he has the talent to take his acting career beyond the tough-man roles so many former grapplers come to embody. He proved that he has potential with his role as Sapper Morton in "Blade Runner 2049," and then followed through on that promising turn with his performance as Leonard in 2023's "Knock at the Cabin." But despite charting a diverse filmography and being recognized as the best wrestler-turned-actor by his "Glass Onion" director Rian Johnson, it's always seemed like Bautista has wanted more.
Though he claims to have proven himself with "Knock at the Cabin," that doesn't mean he's done demonstrating his talents. This year, we've seen him finally given more to do in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" duology...

Masters of the Air is a war drama miniseries created by John Shiban and John Orloff. Based on the Donald Miller book of the same name, it serves as a spiritual successor to 2001’s Band of Brothers. The series stars Anthony Boyle as real-life professor and navigator Lt. Harry Crosby. During an interview, Boyle spoke about working on the World War II drama and revealed several insights about its making.

Boyle also revealed the piece of advice the show’s team received directly from Tom Hanks, who is credited as an executive producer on the series. Given the success of the series, it is safe to say that Hanks’ advice was on point and served the team well. Here is what Anthony Boyle had to say about Tom Hanks’ advice for Masters of the Air.

“Masters of the Air” has no shortage of Emmys allure. With a roster of executive producers that includes Emmy winners Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, a highly acclaimed cast, and the fact that it’s a companion series to “Band of Brothers” (2001) and “The Pacific” (2010), which have won a combined 15 Emmys, expectations were high. The Apple TV+ limited series did not disappoint. Among its many strengths is undoubtedly the star-making performance delivered by Nate Mann as Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal, the B-17 commander of the 100th bomb group who flew an astounding 52 successful missions, earning 16 decorations and establishing a legacy that continues to this day.
Mann, whose screen credits include supporting roles in two feature films, “Licorice Pizza” (2021) and “Ex-Husbands” (2023), and this year’s Peacock miniseries, “Apples Never Fall,” is a relative newcomer, but you wouldn’t know it by examining his performance in “Masters of the Air.” He...

In the week since our 2024 Emmy predictions center expanded to include the guest acting categories, a strong consensus has formed around four potential winners from three different series. The one show that is expected to achieve double victories in this area is FX’s “The Bear,” which won’t have much trouble doing so if our users are correct about it taking up seven of the possible 12 comedy guest nomination slots.
The widely predicted guest winners from “The Bear” are Jon Bernthal and Jamie Lee Curtis, the former of whom was just nominated last year for the show’s inaugural season. The likeliest drama guest victors are potential Emmy first-timer Nestor Carbonell (“Shōgun”) and 2021 champ Claire Foy (“The Crown”). Foy would be only the third actress to win twice in her category for one role, after Patricia Clarkson (“Six Feet Under”) and Margo Martindale (“The Americans”).

Glen Powell may have a lock on a slew of beloved 1970s and 1980s franchise reboots, but the actor almost traveled to a galaxy far, far away a decade ago.
Powell told GQ UK that he was amid the final casting round to play Han Solo in “Star Wars” prequel film “Solo” circa 2018.
“I can joke about it now, [but] I blew that final audition,” Powell admitted.
Ansel Elgort also auditioned but it was Alden Ehrenreich who was instead cast in the lead role. The feature, directed by Ron Howard, bombed at the box office.
“It’s haunting when you blow those moments,” Powell added. “But that’s one of the parts of [the Hollywood myth] that’s not true. That was always somebody else’s ride to go on. You know what I mean? It was never yours to go on. If you put your time in, you’ll get your ride.”

Top Gun: Maverick was not only a treat to the film industry but to the eyes as well thanks to Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and of course, Glen Powell. The actors put their best foot forward into making the film what it is and somewhere along the way, we fell in love with every single face we saw on the screen. Whether it was the film’s intense, emotional, or fun scenes like the one on the beach, everything was crafted to perfection.

Could Michael B. Jordan be out as the hero of Olympus? Could a Kingsman alumni be scooping up the role instead?
In a recent discussion on Disney rumors, The DisInsider‘s Skyler Shuler and Boardwalk Times‘ Zach Perilstein had some exciting news regarding the casting of upcoming movies. We’ve known for sometime that both actors were being eyed by Disney for the lead, but something may have recently changed.
When asked about the “top choices” for the role of the Greek hero and son of Zeus, Shuler had the following to say:
“Last I heard, Egerton was high on Disney’s “wishlist” as is Austin Butler, Jordan’s was not mentioned to me in my recent discussion with a source.“
That’s not much to go on. I’m not saying the “insider” info isn’t solid, but the longer Disney waits to pull the trigger, the more scheduling...

Everything about the making of 1954's "Godzilla" feels miraculous. The movie is a feat of filmmaking on every level, from its now aged yet still impressive practical effects to its bold nuclear threat story set in post-war Japan. The film utilized every trick in the book to bring its eponymous kaiju to life, from building a monster costume out of plastic and concrete to creating Godzilla's infamous roar by rubbing the loosened strings of a double bass.
The team behind the original "Godzilla" movie, which included director Ishirō Honda, special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya, and the team at Toho Studios, got creative with their moviemaking at every opportunity. Still, no amount of creative problem-solving could save the cast and crew from the forces of nature, which apparently conspired against the production during some especially sweltering days in Japan's Mie prefecture.

The cape was once the kingmaker. But the movie stars at the top of studios’ most-wanted lists today have largely avoided cinematic universes. Instead of being pulled up to the A-list with a call from Marvel or DC (like earlier breakouts Chris Evans, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa), today’s top talents — according to THR’s survey of executives, managers and agents — were anointed by auteur directors. Austin Butler was tapped by Baz Luhrmann for Elvis, while Denis Villeneuve gave nearly a third of this list their first franchise movie with his Dune features.
Today’s young stars are also less formulaic than their predecessors of just a decade ago, whose indie debuts or tiny Oscar turns were quickly followed by IP-backed film series. They are more agnostic, too, moving easily among studio filmmaking, indie efforts and television. Unlike past eras, there’s also not a single “type” dominating the group.

Keanu Reeves has always had a career worth the envy of his contemporaries. From his righteous indignance against violence in turning down Oliver Stoneʼs Platoon to becoming one of the most in-demand action movie stars, even in his late 50s, Reeves doesnʼt leave much to the imagination as far as his success is concerned. But even those set on the path of success can sometimes tread down the wrong path.

Despite the direction in which Reeves was later bound to go in his career, in hindsight, the actor got his start playing charming go-getters stuck in difficult predicaments. Be it Speed or Constantine or The Devilʼs Advocate, he has always been the quiet charmer with a chip on his shoulder, fighting against all odds for the selfless greater good.

According to rumors, James Gunn will make Green Arrow a part of his Justice League team in the Dcu. The character has a decent fanbase, thanks to Stephen Amell’s eight-season run as Oliver Queen in The CW show, Arrow. Earlier, Zack Snyder tried to include the character in the Dceu, with another actor considered for the role, but it didn’t ultimately work out. Interestingly, rumors also suggest that Dcu will make Black Canary his partner.

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.
