“Fallout 76” has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.
That is a jump from the 17 million players “Fallout 76” had totaled in December, ahead of the April 10 release of Jonathan Nolan’s “Fallout” TV adaptation on Prime Video.
“It’s kind of been sneaky popular for a while — but not to this level and it’s just been really great for the for the whole studio,” Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard, who oversees the “Fallout” franchise, told Variety.
In the under two months since the series premiered (and has already been picked up for a second season), daily active users across the “Fallout” video game franchise titles developed and published by Bethesda, a division of Microsoft Gaming, have ballooned over 600% to more than 5 million players.

Did Moldaver Die in the Fallout Series on Prime?
Moldaver may not have been the hero or villain we always thought her to be, but what fans find interesting about her character is how she has been alive for over 200 years.

Fallout has become one of Prime Video’s biggest series ever — according to Prime Video.
The well-reviewed show, based on the video game franchise of the same name, has become the second-most-watched title ever on the Amazon streaming service over its first 16 days of release, the company says. Prime Video says 65 million viewers worldwide have watched at least some of Fallout since its April 10 premiere, putting the show behind only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in the streamer’s catalog.
Global audiences have powered a majority of that viewing: More than 60 percent of Fallout’s audience is outside the United States. The (limited) data from Amazon jibes with that from outside sources like Samba TV, Luminate and Reelgood, all of which have tracked a strong start for the series (Nielsen’s streaming data lags by several weeks).

“Fallout” is proving to be far from a (nuclear) bomb for Amazon’s Prime Video.
According to the streamer, the series pulled in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of availability, with the first season dropping in its entirety on April 10. That makes it the second most-watched title ever on the platform and the most-watched title since the debut on “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” back in 2022.
Amazon also says the show is its most-watched ever among adults 18-34, with 60% of the show’s audience coming from outside the United States. In particular, the UK, France, and Brazil have all proven to be hubs for the show’s popularity. It should be noted, however, that Amazon has not released any data on how viewers are counted, especially when it comes to completion of the show. Therefore, it is unknown if a viewer is counted once they have completed a single episode,...

The Amazon Prime television series Fallout has already proven to be a massive success, but the party is far from over. The streaming giant recently revealed that a second season for the show has been ordered, which means our questions from the first season will hopefully get answers.
Although much can be said about the production of this incredible show, from exceptional props to top-tier cinematography, there is nothing like a good villain. In fact, without that antagonistic edge that drives the greatest heroes in film history, we would be at a great loss. And there is something to be said for an enemy who is not just evil incarnate, but one who makes decisions based on a questionable sense of morality, where the death of innocent lives is an end that justifies the means.
Enter Sarita Choudhury’s character, Lee Moldaver, one of the primary antagonists in the Fallout series.

The Season 1 finale of Prime Video’s “Fallout” left audiences with many unanswered questions around the scientist-turned-New California Republic leader Lee Moldaver, such as how she survived the nuclear apocalypse and her relationship to Lucy’s mother, Rose MacLean.
Sarita Choudhury, who portrays Moldaver, revealed that she “knows enough” about the answers to these questions, but remained tight-lipped.
“I was told enough to play each scene,” she told TheWrap in a recent interview. “When I had the first meeting, I was told a lot, and then as we were shooting… It was so coveted, this information, and the writers are so brilliant, they’re so caring. They wanted to give us everything, but at the same time, they couldn’t give everything. So I know more than you do, but I don’t know as much as them.”

The official description states it follows “the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters that are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.”
Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are the creators, executive producers, and showrunners. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy executive produce via Kilter Films, which is under an overall deal at Amazon. Athena Wickham of Kilter Films also executive produces along with Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.

Aaron Moten was not exactly familiar with “Fallout,” the game, when “Fallout,” the TV show, came to him. “I think if I had seen a poster, if I had seen a photograph of the T-60 — the big power armor suit — I would’ve recognized it to be ‘Fallout,’ but yeah, totally new to me,” he tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “The world, the deep dive, if you will.”
The actor did a deep dive into gamers and Twitch streamers to prep for his audition, but after landing the part of Maximus, he made a conscious choice not to play the game. “My job as an actor always feels like bringing a human element to something. [Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for Prime Video’s “Fallout,” including the finale.]
After eight episodes of flashbacks and intertwined perilous adventures, Prime Video’s “Fallout” reaches its climactic conclusion, with the door wide open to keep going. Set in the sprawling and fruitful world of Bethesda Softworks’ popular video game series, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner’s dystopian drama brings Season 1 to a head in the final episode with a dizzying number of revelations.
Most of those twists come back to Vault-Tec, the organization behind nuclear fallout shelters like Lucy’s (Ella Purnell). Vault-Tec controls the vault population by assigning old executives as Overseers; Vault-Tec destroyed Shady Sands in order to maintain supremacy; Vault-Tec controls the Brotherhood of Steel; and most damning of all, Cooper’s past (Walton Goggins) reveals that Vault-Tec may have even dropped the first bomb.

Through eight episodes, we follow Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) as they uncover the mysteries of Vault-Tec and the Wastelanders who attacked Vault 33 at the start of the season. While they initially set out on their own quests, their paths all converge by the end, as a MacGuffin hunt turns into something much bigger that will affect the future of the Fallout series for years to come.

A ravaged post-apocalyptic wasteland, like the one in the "Fallout" video game franchise, is like a minefield waiting to explode. Treacherous terrains, radioactive water bodies, aggressive wastelanders, and mutated insects are just some of the dangers that await any explorer, and "Fallout" relies on one in-game mechanic to immerse players into its dynamic open worlds. A Pip-Boy, short for Personal Information Processor, acts as a diegetic tool in every "Fallout" title, where everything from inventory management to a specialized targeting combat system (known as V.A.T.S) is embedded within this portable wrist computer. Although Pip-Boys were originally issued to vault dwellers, their usage spread to the surface, where several Free State inhabitants relied on them for survival and navigation. The ingenuity of the "Fallout" video games extends beyond their post-apocalyptic worldbuilding and snazzy combat mechanics — they are role-playing experiences that feel intuitive, bizarre, and challenging all at once. To capture these medium-specific idiosyncrasies in a television adaptation of a beloved franchise is a tall order, and Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan's "Fallout" understands what it means to inhabit such a broken, retrofuturist society. The end of the first season of "Fallout" is also the beginning, as it promises a new world and sets the stage for chaos and order, with the sway of the pendulum suspended until darker truths emerge. For franchise enthusiasts, it is a familiar story reinvented in meaningful, riveting ways. For newcomers, it is an intriguing post-apocalyptic setting that oscillates between gleeful sarcasm and heartbreaking pathos.

Hank MacLean, otherwise known as Overseer Hank, is the overseer of Vault 33 in 2296. He is the father of Lucy and Norm MacLean (Moisés Arias) who has a knack for science and committing to his duty as the overseer of Vault 33.

Review: Back in 1997, I was a high school kid playing video games on my Nintendo 64 and my PC. I loved games like Command & Conquer: Red Alert, the original Diablo, and Fallout. When The Last of Us debuted early in 2023, I began my rave review by saying, “Among the many compliments I can give HBO’s The Last of Us is that it eventually made me forget that it’s based on a video game.” Some gamers took this as both a backhanded compliment for the show and a blanket dismissal of the artistry of video games. But the point I argued then, and would argue now, is that the demands of an interactive game are fundamentally different from the demands of...

The big and small screens are stuffed full of post-apocalyptic adventures, yet despite that cluttered landscape, few shows and films stick out to offer something unique for viewers. However, in “Fallout” for Prime Video, a thrilling adaptation of the beloved video game series, creators Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner present an off-kilter and fascinating look at humanity in the 23rd century.
“Fallout” begins at the end. The eight-episode series opens in picturesque America sometime in the future. It has reverted to the texture of a glossier post-racial 1955. Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an actor known for starring in Westerns, is the entertainment at a children’s party for an affluent family. As he packs his belongings, his young daughter Janey (Teagan Meredith) points outward toward the Los Angeles skyline just as a nuclear bomb explodes on the horizon. After a particularly harrowing setback to his mission in The Fallout, the new series from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld), a bounty hunter known as The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) makes the executive decision to change course entirely. Although his less experienced traveling companion/prisoner protests, The Ghoul knows better. “The wasteland’s got its own golden rule,” he snarls. “Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every time.”
That most of Prime Video’s Fallout consists of getting sidetracked by bullshit is simultaneously one of its main charms and one of its most frustrating flaws. At its liveliest, the sci-fi adventure captures the fun of simply getting to explore a strange new world, meeting colorful characters and going down mysterious rabbit holes. But the lack of urgency also means its eight hours take an awfully long time to get where it’s going.

A stark wooden cross stands in a moonlit cemetery in the opening episode of Fallout, Amazon’s eccentric and capacious adaptation of the video game series. From each arm hangs an IV bag that feeds a yellow liquid into a grave. There lies the body of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an erstwhile cowboy who struck gold as a western film star before being blacklisted for alleged communist affiliations. Cooper lived in a distinctively retro-futurist United States. In this alternate universe, the 2070s were marked by escalating war between America and China and seemingly stuck in the 1950s, with black-and-white TVs and classic cars—plus robots that helped apron-clad homemakers around the house. Then the bombs fell, in a bout of mutually assured destruction that eradicated almost all life on Earth.
More than 200 years after the nuclear calamity, a trio of wary mercenaries dig up Cooper’s tomb and find a coffin chained shut.

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise won’t begin streaming until April 12th, but season 2 of the show is already moving forward. While the first season was primarily filmed in New York (with some filming also taking place in Utah), Variety reports that the production will be moving to California for the next sequel. That’s not to take advantage of filming locations there, but rather to get a tax break. The California Film Commission just awarded $152 million in tax incentives to a dozen different TV shows, and Fallout is on the list. For filming the next season in California, the show will receive $25 million in California tax credits.
The budget for the show is quite large, as Variety notes that it has $153 million in qualified expenditures for the season.

Amazon’s Fallout series has picked up a $25 million tax credit offer from the California Film Commission to practically assure a second season and relocate production from New York State to Los Angeles.
Set in the future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and world of Fallout, the series from Amazon MGM Studios is projected by the California Film Commission to contribute $153 million in qualifying expenditures to that state and bring on around 170 people in cast and crew.
On Monday, the California Film Commission unveiled in 12 projects projected to spend an estimated $1.1 billion in California during their upcoming season. The roster of new TV series includes Amazon MGM Studios’ Untitled Task Force Series to follow a secret task force of undercover agents, while 20th Television nabbed tax credits for two projects by executive producer Ryan Murphy – Dr. Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson, and Grotesquerie, starring Niecy Nash.

Karen Pittman won’t be returning for “And Just Like That” Season 3. Pittman, who played professor Nya Wallace in the Max series for two seasons, has exited the show ahead of its third installment. Her departure arises from production conflicts, according to Max, amid her recent casting in Netflix’s “Forever” and her series regular role in “The Morning Show,” which was bumped up from a recurring role in Season 1.
“It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of ‘And Just Like That…’ As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others,” a Max spokesperson said in a statement.
“Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible,” the statement continued. “Due to the production realities, we are...

Exclusive: A fan-favorite character is leaving And Just Like That… Karen Pittman, who played Nya Wallace in the first two seasons of the Sex and the City sequel, will not be returning for the upcoming third season of the hit Max series.
Pittman was already a series regular on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show when she was cast in And Just Like That…, originally as a recurring in Season 1; she was upped to a series regular in Season 2. Earlier this month, she also was tapped for a starring role in Forever, Netflix’s upcoming drama series reimagining Judy Blume’s novel from Mara Brock Akil.
This put Pittman in the middle of a scheduling conundrum involving three high-profile series on three major streamers filming new seasons this year within similar timeframes.
According to sources, there was every intention for Pittman to be in Season 3 of Ajlt, and Nya was written into the scripts.
